MARKHAM, September 12, 2023 – Golfing legends and 2024 Presidents Cup team captains Mike Weir and Jim Furyk participated in a site visit today and met with key organizers of next year’s event happening from Sept. 24 to 29, 2024.

“We are very excited to support this tournament here in Canada, especially at such a beautiful and historic course,” says Eric Marshall, director of Genesis Motors Canada. “We look forward to demonstrating why Genesis has been gaining such a reputation for its luxury hospitality and guest experience.”

Chauffeured to The Royal Montreal Golf Club in a pair of 2023 Genesis GV80 Luxury SUVs to explore the grounds, this will be the second time in history that the oldest golf club in North America will host this prestigious but engaging event.

“The first tee experience is incredible,” said Weir. “There’s music playing as players come out through the tunnel, there’s a big screen up on the first tee, and you can see the opening tee shots go down and the camera pans with it.” adding, “It’s a totally different experience for the fans and the players in a team competition.”

Hailing from Brights Grove, Ontario, Weir is the first Canadian to captain the International team. As captains of the International and American teams, Weir and Jim Furyk are responsible for choosing players, team uniform and bag designs, and developing their respective teams’ training and practice regimens. They will balance these responsibilities alongside playing on the PGA Tour Champions, the senior circuit for men’s golf. Both Weir and Furyk played in the 2007 edition of the tournament.

“The golf course really hasn’t changed that much since ’07,” said Furyk in the midst of his day in Montreal. “They’re going to add a little yardage to it, but it still looks very similar. It’s withstood the test of time, for sure.”

The tournament will feature some of the best players on the PGA Tour. The Presidents Cup sees 12 players from the United States face off against 12 players from around the world, excluding Europe.

“We are extremely proud to have partnered with Genesis as the Official Automobile Sponsor of the Presidents Cup,” said Executive Director Ryan Hart. “The partnership, which was originally announced in 2021, continues to evolve and we are very excited to work directly with Genesis Canada over the next twelve months as we prepare to host the 2024 event at The Royal Montreal Golf Club. Genesis has a strong commitment to the sport of golf and always delivers best in class experiences to players driving their vehicles as well as to our fans engaging in their unique on-site activations, which both help to elevate the global stature of the Presidents Cup.”
