16 September 2022 - Genesis has triumphed at the 2022 Good Design Awards, with success for two models in the Automotive and Transport Product category
The game-changing electric GV60 has secured Good Design Award Gold in recognition of the model’s outstanding design and innovation.
The dynamic and luxurious GV70 SUV was also named a Good Design Award Winner.
A Special Accolade was also awarded to GV60 as the 2022 Automotive Interior Design Award Winner, with its spacious interior the product of smart packaging that derives maximum benefit from the bespoke electric vehicle architecture.
The 2022 Good Design Awards success sees Genesis build on the Good Design Award Winner Accolade secured in 2021 for GV80, in recognition of its styling dynamism and advanced safety technology.
The prestigious Australian Good Design Awards are the highest honour for design and innovation in Australia and were announced today at a ceremony in Sydney.
After accepting the awards, the Head of Genesis Motors Australia, Connal Yan, said that it is satisfying to be recognised for outstanding design for a second year.
“Securing prestigious Good Design Awards accolades in 2022 after our success last year underlines the growing momentum of the Genesis brand as we roll out innovative products into new segments of the market,” Mr. Yan said.
“We are delighted to receive these prestigious awards for GV60, our first-ever electric vehicle, and for our luxurious GV70 SUV,” he said.
The Good Design judges praised GV60, Genesis Motor’s first dedicated EV, for its futuristic compact SUV form, advanced safety and state-of-the-art long-range, rapid recharge battery-electric powertrain.
Zero-emission GV60 can be charged to from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes and has a maximum range of 470km, to play its part in creating a sustainable mobility future while underscoring Genesis Motor’s leadership in eco-friendly powertrain technology.
GV60 was also awarded a Special Accolade as the overall 2022 Automotive Interior Design Award Winner after making a strong impression on the judges with its spacious and inviting interior.
GV60’s interior packaging makes maximum benefit of the compact, EV-Specific E-GMP architecture, through design elements such as a compact dashboard, flat floor, floating console and slim seatbacks.
The jurors also lauded Genesis Motor’s commitment to developing a sustainable EV battery reuse and recycling ecosystem, and use of sustainable materials in GV60, including eco-friendly leather and fabrics made using natural materials.
The Good Design Awards Jury commented: “Genesis enters the dedicated EV sphere with the GV60, a compact SUV loaded with tech yet uncompromising in its luxury aesthetic. The eye-catching and aesthetically-pleasing silhouette, which is more coupe than SUV, still offers the latter’s variable AWD underpinnings, accessible ride height and efficient external dimensions while dramatizing lights, shadows and design cues for that EV street cred.
The interior fit and finish is noteworthy, with lovely surprise-and-delight features such as the centre console’s ‘Crystal Sphere’ which glows different colours to alert the driver to the readiness of the vehicle. The absence of conventional engine sounds combined with active cabin noise cancelling is rather helpful.
Digital side-view cameras replace traditional side mirrors, with alerts and vision displayed on small screens mounted to the base of the A-pillar.
The company’s long-range rapid recharge battery-electric tech can reach 450km while charging to 80 per cent in a claimed 18 minutes; housed in a flat-floor design to maximise space. Other sustainability ticks include the recycling of heat from electronic componentry to warm the cabin, eco-leather and trim made from corn polymer extract and recycled plastics, and a vehicle-to-load reverse charging system.”
The judging panel applauded GV70’s progressive Athletic Elegance design and the advanced user experience it delivers through leading-edge safety, convenience and powertrain technologies.
Electrified GV70 drew acclaim for its potent performance, maximum range of 445km, and its capability for a charge from 10% to 80% in as little as 18 minutes.
GV70 also impressed with its extensive Genesis Active Safety Control technologies and eight-airbag suite, which includes the innovative Genesis front centre side airbag.
The Good Design Awards Jury commented: “This striking medium luxury SUV deftly applies the Korean luxury car maker’s ‘Athletic Elegance’ design language to make a standout design statement in a class dominated by more conservative offerings. The styling is characterised by the distinctive crest grille, quad headlights, and a dramatic tapered roofline, atop a body that sits with a broad, planted stance on outsized alloy wheels. The spacious and practical interior includes high quality materials and finishes that speak to the GV70’s aspirational, flagship positioning.
Featuring both ICE and EV powertrains, the zero-emission Electrified GV70 (EV) highlights the brand’s sustainable mobility leadership. Sustainability is further addressed through the use of lightweight body materials, drag-reducing aerodynamics, and eco-friendly leather & fabrics. Among its innovative features, the GV70 features a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function, which makes the vehicle a portable source of mains electricity. Fingerprint recognition enhances convenience, and an advanced Road Preview Electronic Control Suspension that monitors the road ahead and pre-emptively adjusts the electronic dampers for optimal ride comfort.”
The 2022 Good Design Awards jury evaluated each design against a strict set of criteria, across an array of design disciplines and subcategories.
To earn recognition, Good Design Award entries had to demonstrate outstanding design and innovation under the banners of Good Design, Design Innovation and Design Impact.
