20 January 2023 - This month, Genesis Motors Australia will set sail as the Official Automotive Partner for the KPMG Australia Sail Grand Prix (SailGP), as the world’s most exciting racing on water returns to Sydney Harbour. At the centre of the action is Genesis Island, the ideal place to experience the drama, excitement and glamour of SailGP.
Set on Shark Island, Genesis Island offers the very best land-based viewing of the sailing race with exclusive waterfront seats, plus big screens for action replays and live race commentary. There is also gourmet food, a premium open bar, and exciting pre- and post-race entertainment, making it the perfect vantage point to take in the race.
This year’s race will be the ninth leg of an eleven-stop global championship that visits some of the world’s most iconic cities such as San Francisco, Copenhagen and Saint-Tropez. For the third time, the purpose-driven league will take over Sydney Harbour, with expectation of 20,000+ fans following the adrenalin-filled action.
Watching the technologically-advanced 50-foot hydrofoiling catamarans fly over the water at breathtaking speeds up to 100km/h, spectators will have the chance to support Tom Slingsby and his Australia SailGP Team, as they compete against eight rival nations to maintain their current position at the top of the SailGP Season 3 leaderboard.
Genesis supports SailGP's purpose-led agenda for a better planet, with its commitment to becoming a 100% zero emission vehicle brand by 2030 and to pursuing carbon neutrality by 2035.
The brand will showcase the new GV60 and Electrified GV70 at SailGP, highlighting the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capacity by charging a DJ booth and Gelato cart using nothing but the vehicle battery.
“Genesis Motors is proud to partner with SailGP and the New South Wales Government to bring this world class event to the iconic Sydney Harbour,” said Connal Yan, Head of Genesis Motors Australia.
“This partnership represents Genesis Motors Australia’s first foray into sailing, providing us with a great opportunity to showcase our progressive and audacious brand to a global audience. We will showcase our new EV models, and are strongly aligned to SailGP’s purpose-led agenda for a better planet.”
Tickets are priced at $310 for Adults / AUD $221 for Children plus return ferries from the Race Village at Barangaroo.
