13 October, 2021 Genesis has triumphed at the 2021 Australian International Good Design Awards, with GV80 a winner in the Automotive and Transport Product category.
GV80 received a Good Design Award Winner Accolade in the Product Design category in recognition of its outstanding design and innovation.
The prestigious Australian International Good Design Awards are the highest honour for design and innovation in Australia and were announced today during the 2021 Good Design Awards Week (11-15 October).
“It is immensely satisfying to see Genesis recognised with a prestigious Good Design Award for GV80, especially given the high calibre of entries and the record number of submissions this year,” Genesis Motors Australia Chief Executive Officer, Jun Heo said.
“From the drawing board, GV80 aimed to take Genesis in a new design-focused direction, which makes its 2021 Good Design Awards Winner Accolade all the more pleasing,” he said.
As the first Genesis SUV, in the form of a large, premium seven-seater, the progressive GV80 marked a new design-oriented direction for Genesis and treats occupants to a dynamic, luxurious and technologically advanced experience.
The “handsomely styled, attractively finished and nicely appointed” GV80 was acclaimed by the panel of more than 70 Australian and international jurors.
“The GV80 is also loaded with tech, including Interior design that elegantly blends traditional luxury materials like wood and leather with sophisticated technology like a large touch screen infotainment system and 3D-view LCD virtual instrument cluster,” the judges said.
“A long bonnet and plunging rear roofline give it a sense of dynamism in side profile, while the vast cross-wire grille shouts prestige.”
The panel also praised GV80’s “strong active and passive safety story, including a rare front center side airbag.”
“Stand out technology features not necessary offered by rival luxury brands includes Augmented Reality (AR-view) satellite navigation system, an Active Road-Noise Control system, and a Road Preview Electronic Control Suspension (ECS) system.
“A very well-rounded design,” the judges concluded.’.
“Receiving an Australian Good Design Award is testament to embedding design excellence at the heart of a product, service, place or experience,” Good Design Australia Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Brandon Gien said.
“Although 2021 continues to be another challenging year, it is incredibly inspiring to see designers and businesses working together to find innovative, customer-centric design solutions to local and global challenges and to see them recognised and rewarded for their efforts through these prestigious Awards.
“The standard of design excellence represented in this year’s Awards is the best I’ve ever seen in my 25 years of running these Awards, an encouraging sign that the design sector is flourishing,” Dr. Gien said.
The 2020 Good Design Awards jury evaluated each design from a record 933 submissions against a strict set of criteria, across 12 design disciplines and 30 subcategories.
To earn recognition, Good Design Award entries had to demonstrate outstanding design and innovation under the banners of Good Design, Design Innovation and Design Impact.
