• Genesis G80 sedan and GV80 SUV secure five-star ANCAP safety ratings
• Both Genesis models excelled across all four key ANCAP assessment areas with “impressive results”

26 May 2021 - Australasia’s independent vehicle safety authority, ANCAP, has awarded the Genesis GV80 SUV and G80 sedan five-star safety ratings following their latest round of testing.

Genesis’s first SUV, GV80, achieved top marks across the range of assessment criteria with full points achieved in the side impact and oblique pole tests, and both child occupant protection tests. Full points were recorded for the front passenger in the frontal offset test and the driver in the full width test.

GV80 also scored maximum points for protection provided in occupant-to-occupant and far-side impact crashes.

The G80 sedan achieved excellent all-round results, scoring top marks in the side impact and far-side impact crash tests, as well as providing a high level of protection to rear-seat adults in the full-width frontal test - an important achievement for this category of vehicle.

Notable performance was also recorded for the G80’s ability to prevent rear-end and turning-across-path crashes thanks to its collision avoidance assist technology (commonly referred to as AEB). Full avoidance or crash mitigation was recorded in all FCA car-to-car test scenarios at a range of speeds and approach offsets.

“These are impressive results”, said ANCAP Chief Executive, Carla Hoorweg.

“The GV80 also gives consumers some insight into ANCAP’s future plans, with all variants equipped as standard with a Child Presence Detection system. While this feature is not yet scored as part of the official ANCAP rating process, it paves the way for a new aspect we’ll be introducing from 2023,” Ms Hoorweg added.

Both the GV80 and G80, like every vehicle in the Genesis line-up, features an extensive standard active and passive safety technology, as part of the brand’s commitment to passenger security and comfort.

In addition to highly rigid body structures, GV80 and G80 cocoon occupants with the safety of 10 airbags, including a pioneering centre side airbag, which prevents or reduces injuries caused by head clashes between front occupants in the event of a side collision.
